So, sometimes when I am riding I get a wierd buzzing noise from the guage cluster and then my speedo goes crazy and starts shaking from back and forth and will read the wrong MPH for a little while then it stops. It does it whenever it feels like it. I have tried to see if I can figure out what makes it go, but it seems just random.

My tach (cable linked) use to do that, too. I took it apart and lubed it and the cable up. This seemed to have helped as it has not done it since.

I'd start with the cable first as the speedo head is built like a swiss clock. Lube the cable with chain and cable lube. You should be able to find that at any auto parts or motorcycle shop. Pull the cable all the way out of its housing and make sure it's in good shape, too.

I had a similar problem with my 550. The gauges were driving me crazy with buzzing. I stripped them down to bare bones and found some of the rubber used to absorb vibrations had become hardened and worn. Instead of costly replacement rubbers, I used hot glue underneath them. Even with the screws and washers as tight as they could go, the rubber wasn't squished enough to prevent the rattle. Hot glue worked perfect. Then I used the hot glue to build a bird house I saw on Martha Stewart's show. It was a very craft-filled day.

As for the speedo/tach errors, cables may need lube or the tach/speedo may just need to be replaced or rebuilt.
