    So i started changing out the motor on my 1982 Seca. I bought a 1982 Seca 750 engine, sans pickup coils, alternator and starter, figuring i could utilize the same parts off my 650 motor. Starter, no prob, pickup coils, same, alternator stator coils, good, alternator rotor assenbly, no dice. Cannot get it to move, can't find a large enough bolt to push it off the shaft, and no amount of pull with a gear puller would budge it. In an attempt to tap and pull as suggested here, i cracked the outer edge of the rotor and gave up. Other than that, everything is going smooth, just need a few more suggestions, like what pitch and size bolt pushes the dang thing out. cruzerjd

    Dude, spring for the the extractor bolt! Heck, I'll mail mine to you! If you cracked your rotor, is it in need of replacement? That will be pricy! The bolt is only about $10 at most. Heck of a lot cheaper than breaking parts.

    ap7) Aftermarket alternator Rotor Removal Tool, correct copy of the factory Yamaha tool needed to remove the alternator rotor from its mounting shaft (the rotor is a friction fit onto the tapered end of the alternator shaft). Designed to be used in conjuction with the HCP6495 rotor puller tool Attachment Tool listed below. The use of these two tools allows you to safely and properly remove your rotor without damaging either the rotor or the rotor shaft. For all XJ550 thru XJ1100 models.

    HCP1404 Aftermarket Rotor Puller-Removal Tool, screws into the threaded hub of the alternator,
    $ 14.95

    HCP6495 Aftermarket rotor puller tool Attachment Tool, slides into the end of the internally threaded alternator shaft and prevents the tip of the HCP1404 from "mushrooming" the end of the shaft.
    $ 3.95

    Got er done... tried a bit of a different tack on putting pressure and tapping the rotor and it fell out. Got the bike up and running, but idle is strange, seems to be really lean. Using the 650 carbs on the 750 is probably the problem. Going to spring for fatter pilots and mains. I am currently running Dynojet needles and mains intended for a k&n filter and stock exhaust. I put the 4:1 pipe on for s&g, so that might be a contributing factor. Would be running it to work tomorrow but I bunged the threads on one of the peg mounting bolts and will need to replace it. It was kind of late this afternoon to go to the parts store so I will be robbing the parts bin at work tomorrow. cruzerjd
