Main fuse the main problem

After utting the bike back together and wrestling with a few small issues I am still left with one. I am now blowing the main fuse one or more times a day. I did install a blade tye fuse box and two new alternator brushes. I have since rechecked the wiring and general state of these two items and they seem fine. Other than that, a valve job, and relocating the headlight, I haven't messed with anything that would cause such an issue. I did put in a new electronic flasher but don't think that would do it. Friends tell me to up the amp on the fuse or to straight wire the main, but I know better than that. I am in dire need of help!!!! I want to ride! Thanks.

 

You should never come close to blowing the fuse unless you have a short somewhere (or you are using a fuse that's too small). Don't put in a fuse that's too large or jumper it with a wire or you could cause a fire. In relocating the headlight you might have accidentally caused a cut in the wire insulation or something that could cause a short. One way to find a short is to put an ammeter that can handle that much current in series with the fuse then monitor the current and disconnect everything one item at a time until the short causing the current drain goes away. Some people use a light bulb such as a stop light in place of the ammeter since it will light up when there is a short making it easy to see without blowing the fuse.

 

Time to chase the wires in your primary circuit. Be especially vigilent in the area around your relocated headlight.
