It would be nice if you could start a new thread (TechSections?) with different categories for different bikes (e.g. XJ550, XJ650, XJ700, etc) and put all the tech info and questions regarding each particular type in one section. I know this would be a lot of work, but would be very helpful for separating models and would ease search time for troublehooting purposes. I would also help newbies find what they're looking for quicker as well. Comments?

    Re: TechSections

I think the idea is great but I would like a tech section to cover basic issues first (carbs (cleaning/tuning), brakes, forks, petcocks etc.) and modelrelated as an attachment to this..

Any forward motion on this suggestion? This forum has grown incredibly since I joined it with many more members and many more posts, as well!
I would really like to be able to cut to the chase sometimes; if I don't have a lot of time to view the forums and weed through all the posts, it would be nice to quickly scan the XJ550/550R section (for example) and see if anything is new. I really think this would improve things on the forum. Just my 2 cents worth.....

    90'S SECA XJ600

Just wondering if maybe we could get a section on the forums dedicated to 90's XJ600's? I've searched around, but haven't seen a whole lot.

    I'm with You!!!

This site is missing some XJ or SecaII pages!

There is big difference between old XJ and 1992-on models so I think that this idea is GOOOD!!!!

    :D

You guys should look at the XJ CD. There is a lot of info on the later model XJ Bikes.

It would be nice to chat somewhere about newer XJ-s. Correct me if I am wrong but site is named "xjbikes".

I really can't understand what is the problem to make one more section on forum.

I figured that all the sections are for XJ's in general...I don't think that they should start segregating the different years and models. Just my opinion.

    Off topic forum

It might be a good idea to have a forum just for talking about things that get in the way of our love for our bikes (e.g. the Offline thread in the General lounge). It could even be used to bring revenue in to help maintain the site. I know over at [H]ard|Forums they charge like $5 a year to have access to the off-topic area, which also acts as an idiot filter.

    What do you all think.

    Re: TechSections

agree with the Captain. So much good info here it would be great to have common issues collected someplace easy to locate. I'm not very good at finding what I need by searching posts (though it is there and I appreciate XJ moderators and posters for that). And of course I'm embarrassed to ask some basic question for the 1,000th time.

Is the new FAQ Final section going to show the best "how-to's" by topics, with notes for models?

    RIDING SKILLS, SAFETY TOPICS??

    Mods,

How about adding a "RIDING SKILLS-SAFETY TOPIC" to the forum? This would put a damper on me hijacking someone's topic.

Ed has been FILLING the "Be The Bunny" thread (thank you Ed!) which is exactly why I started it-- since this suggestion seems to fall on deaf ears.

    Re: RIDING SKILLS, SAFETY TOPICS??

I'm in 100% agreement with Bill. I started the "Be The Bunny" thread to begin with because of all the posts that begin "I just bought this XJ it's my first bike" in the hopes that people like myself, you for instance, with a vast well of experience to draw on could have a venue to share with those folks. Some of these folks (they're not ALL guys) have taken some form of rider/safety course; a lot have not and probably won't. If something one of us can share will help prevent a disaster, then it's time well spent. Again, thank you.

    Re: RIDING SKILLS, SAFETY TOPICS??

I am exactly one of these people you're describing - recently took the basic rider course to obtain my endorsement and just bought my first bike.

As the "Target Audience", I'm going to toss my $0.02 in here...

The Be the Bunny thread is very cool and useful. There's a lot of information in that discussion that expands on what I learned in the class. It also has a lot of info that should have been covered but wasn't. In it's current form though, it is rather difficult to follow. It requires someone who has the patience to sort through the posts in order to follow the specific sub-topics (improving visibility, riding strategies, etc).

I've already gotten considerable value from this site and I think it would be an excellent section to add.

    Re: RIDING SKILLS, SAFETY TOPICS??

Once again, I agree. WE NEED A SAFETY AND RIDING SKILLS FORUM. I'm very happy with everything that everyone put into "Be The Bunny" please keep it up, but we need a separate forum for this important subject.

    Gear, accessories, "farkles" Forum?

I've been lurking around a few of the other sportbike sites and almost without exception they have a separate forum for member evals of riding gear, luggage, accessories and other "farkles" not mechanically related to the motorcycle. This, along with a RIDING SAFETY forum are sorely lacking here...MODS???

Both are great Ideas. I don't think our moderators have the system authority to add forums. Probably have to get Sno to do it or delegate authority...

So what is the "Parlimentary Procedure" required to make that happen? Posting in the suggestion box in and of itself doesn't seem to have any effect.

That needs to be brought to the attention of "Mister Big"
Seems like a reasonable thing to do.

I think he's busy adjusting the Server, though.
Or whatever you have to do to de-bug the system.

He must be doing something... the system seems to have settled down nicely as of late.

BTW, I still think "farkles" sounds like a children's book, or a Saturday morning cartoon with rainbows and unicorns running around and stuff. Then your six-year-old daughter will be begging you to take her to Toys-R-Us to buy her the newest Farkles dolls and fashion accessories...

It's Woot's word, not mine. He just did a big long post on Farkles, I kind of liked the term. A Farkle is an accessory or gadget you don't actually NEED but makes things a lot easier when you have it, like GPS.

I think that XJ Chat, General lounge, and XJ Modifications should be subdivided into a few more subjects. Some new folders may be: New Owners (with a better welcome), Appearance Mods, Performance Mods, Trip stories, Ride or Rally/Plans, Tips and Tricks.
I find a lot of misplaced posts in the wrong folders, it may help if more subject folders were added to the Forums.

I think this goes along with what I was going to suggest.

There's a forum for tech discussion of XJs, and a forum for "introduce yourself and everything else moto related"

There's no "general" forum where anything non-motorcycle related can go.. Those steak and hamburger threads in General lounge for example.

We might all love motorcycles but its not the only thing we want to talk about right?

Farkle? wasn't that the name of the redheaded family on "Laugh In"? I guess that kinda dates me, yeah, I'm getting old! Still its a great idea to have a "product review" section. I'm always looking for a better product or, a cheaper place to buy quality stuff.

We have the 'Service, Online, Retail Shop Review' forum and in the past the riding safety stuff was posted in the 'General Lounge' forum. I can add more forums but we don't want too many either. Can you post few links to the sample sites so I can get an idea what's missing?

"Gear, Accessories, "Farkles" is no where NEAR as important as a SAFE RIDING or SURVIVAL forum. (It could actually be part of a safe riding forum.) We need a separate channel for safe riding tips. A lot of our members are not only new to this site, or to their XJ, but new to motorcycling altogether. An equally lot of them will never take a MSF rider course; if we can provide a symposium here to pass along some of the basics of survival out there in the 4-wheel world, we need to. We REALLY need to.
