I was thinking of cleaning up the handle bar area of my bike (82 750 maxim) and has hoping to get a few answers to some questions, I was planning on making a new smaller instrument cluster with warning lights only (i have seen some posts on switching to LED, but not sure if this is the same concept?) instead of the bulky read out display (oil, fuel, headlamp, etc.) one of the questions i have come up with is if the read outs are simply "light style" wiring, for example could I splice a bulb into the wiring that makes the word "fuel" come on when low on fuel? or is there something more to this?

I just finished mine yesterday. Its got 5 LEDs,

2 orange turns, 1 red oil, 1 green neutral, one blue high beam.

faily easy to wire up all you have to do is either keep the stock wiring, Or create a common ground and common power. I redid my whole harness so yea...

I've got the same bike, and I agree that the instrument panel is horriffically ugly. I'm very curious how your setup will turn out, please keep us updated.
