I've got a screw loose

    Is it possible to get the glass off the tacho' ? one of the small screws is floating about in there.--1980 xj650 :?:

    If it's a sealed one that doesn't unscrew you have to cut the ring around the front and pry the glass off. It's possible to pry up the ridge around the inside of the top cover all the way around but I found it easier to just cut it at the bottom and pull it off. Then you can glue it back on with some RTV silicon rubber.

    Hi Jim, what a ripper site, unfortunately the models differ over here and you have to look at the xs to see my gauges and the whole thing comes as an assembly. the us model has the 2 glasses and rims joined together with a flat on one side.

    i got mine off by loosening the ridge...it was a bitch to get it back on neatly though....

    Well, that just stinks. I 'm using a gauge cluster from a U.S. model 1980 xj650 on my 1981 xj550r and it was a cinch for me to unscrwew and pull the covers off to repaint the dials.

    I guess you're stuck having to use ArizonaSteve's or Shamu's suggestions.

    yeh, i've nailed it, uncrimped the rim & then re-crimped it.
    it takes the patience of a saint not to screw it up.
