I don't know about the LT but I think they look damn nice. Mine are put to shame by comparison. All the chrome is gone and its just the bare yellow plastic showing. Although its so uniform that from a distance the untrained eye could easily mistake it for that being the color it's supposed to be.

Once they get too bad, you can just paint them. I do painting as a sideline, so I just painted the letters in red to match my bikes colors and they turned out great! Be careful if you try to buff them out. That coating wears off easily if your too agressive.

Did you restore those? If so, how? I've a set that I'm working on, but my "chrome" isn't anything as shiney as yours. Do tell.

    MODUS OPERANDI.
I used paint stripper to remove the guilding and backing color, then sprayed the black, i overlaid the letters with 6mm gold coach line, trimming where necessary with a craft knife. I was just pleased the bike isn't a YOMOHO.

Okay, here's a riddle for you guys. The little "650" badge on my airbox cover has a groove cut into it from the lower cowels on my fairing. I've since removed the lowers so I could use highway pegs, but how can I fix the damaged badges? I've browsed some of the sites referenced here for replacement badges, and it would seem that these badges are not available. I'm guessing I could fill in the grooves with a resin of some kind and then sand it and clean up the edges before painting or guilding. What sort of product would you recommend?

Wizard, those look Super! I would like to do the same. So a couple of questions:
"gold coach line" is metallic foil, right? Where might I locate some, a signmaker? Craft store?

How does it adhere to the tank badge?
Did you overcoat the finished badge with anything? (urethane or...?)

    thanks for the inspiration.

most auto paint stores keep these pinstripes / coach lines, just peel the backing off to stick. the whole piece gets a couple of coats of clear lacquer as the final op' - do some tests off the piece to make sure all the components are compatable, if not you can get a very unpleasant paint stripper effect. ( see my post in lounge - "tanked up" ) to see the final product. good luck.

I looked through my Trimbrite catalogue and found a product they carry called Chrome Brite that should work:

It's a 3" x 60" roll of self adhesive, heat resistant foil tape. It's part number is T1818 if you go looking for it. Costs around $10 a roll. I picked up a roll and will give it a try seeings how the paint sticks and rattle can chrome didn't turn out very good.

Done my tank badges and come out good. Found 6" X 3Ft. self adheasive peel and stick at a hobby shop for $3.99. For the slot car,RC and remote control car guys. They had about 15 diffrent color foils to choose from. I used a heat gun after cutting a square to fit the letter and it curled it around the edge of the letter made for easy trimming with an exto knife. Thanks again wizzard

Wizard, you paint-stripped the gilt and paint before refurbing. Think it would work if I just fine-sanded the gilt, then sprayed it all black and applied new foil?

    thanks

yeh, sanding should be ok, but not less than 320, or the plastic will go "fluffy"

the coach line is self adhesive tape, you can get all colors and sizes from your auto paint shop, the stuff you would use to put a line down the side of a car.
