    Hey guys,
how's the XJ community? Weather's gettin nice, ridin' is gettin nice. It's a brisk 44 degrees here in Mass but the bike loves the cold, purrs and screams. So I've got a bit of a problem. About a week ago I put all new breaks on my bike and all was well for about three or four rides. On the fifth ride (might have been the fourth, doesn't matter) my front breaks wouldn't release. I bled the line today to get out any gunk and it seemed to have fixed the problem, they worked smoothly and all was well. Now I was just on my way home and I realized a slight high pitched squeek as I was coming to a stop, I don't think it's a major problem but it's certainly embarrassing, "Hey guys! check out my sick Maxim *squueeeeeeeeeeeekkkk*". Now I can't tell if it's coming from the front or the back but do any of you think that maybe I need to remove the front pads and hit them with a light sand? Could they have gotten a weird glaze because they got a bit hung up? Thanks

My front brakes have squecked since day one.
Pads look fine always passes inspection.
Figured it was the nature of the beast.

I replaced the rear pads on my old Diversion once and they started squealing. Turns out I put the pad spring in back to front (it could go either way). Swapped it around and squeal was gone.

I'd try this first and see how it goes.

If you guys have the older style flat brake pads you are probably missing the anti-squeal shims that go behind them. The newer tapered pads don't need the shims. Also, the discs need routine maintenance to keep them clean and shiny, if they are dirty and corroded they will need to be sanded smooth periodically to prevent squealing.
