Girlfriend burned her leg tonight getting off the back of the bike after a 4 mile trip...

Ouchie is all I can say.

When she got off her leg went right down the pipe towards the ground. The skin just pushed up. Looks like it went through the first few layers of skin. Of course she wanted to goto the ER but we didnt. Followed wedMD directions and seem to be doing good now almost 2 hours later.

I guess its a very good idea for passengers to be aware of the pipes and to wear tight fitting jeans and not shorts.

Please let my experience be a lesson for us all.

Now she says she will never ride on this bike again... So now what does a guy do?

I can feel for her, I had that happen to me on my uncles honda when I was in jr high, but my problem was that I got off on the wrong side, hurt like hell for a while, still have a little scar from it, but now I own his old XJ750 Maxim.

My ex-wife and I shared matching burns on both our legs from riding without long pants (poor choice in hindsight). ER? Wow, must have been quite a burn! I'm sorry to hear of her pain. Reassure her that the correct choice in safety apparel will prevent reoccurrences in the future. Give her time and use the down time wisely to make the bike pretty, she'll give it a spin again someday down the road.

I hope she’s doing better and won’t have any permanent scarring. Yep, safety gear is in order when riding these animals. I've seen first hand on what happens when you go into slide only wearing muscle shirt and jeans (no brain bucket and no jacket). I always wear jeans or leather.

When I was in Jr. High, I rode a friends dirtbike, with the exhaust running up high along the seat. It was way too big for me, and when I got off, my shorts pulled up and I got burned on the inside of my thigh. I've never made that mistake again. I'm sure you'll be able to convince her to ride again. Show her that if you're wearing jeans, you can touch the exhaust for a couple of seconds without any problems.

    Well everything is getting better.

She wanted to go to the ER due to the immediate pain and the odd white look...

Its starting to heal over now. Probably will take a few weeks before its fully healed.
