Driving to work this morning someone that was apparently in a hurry almost took my life. (good thing when I got the bike I gave the whole brake system an overhaul) They hauled right out and locked up their brakes, as did I. Cant stress enough everyone getting their brakes in tip top shape. On my way home I pulled over to put on rain gear. All suited up got back on the bike, turned key, pulled clutch, hit start-----not even a click. 1st thought: damn stock fusebox--grrrrr. Turns out it was my + battery lead! Still gonna change fuse block. Hope tomorrow not so eventful.

I had something similar happen to me today on the CBR (mechanically). Got on the highway, went xxx mph along my favorite stretch of road, got off at the exit near my house, and couldn't find the shift lever with my foot.

At first I thought it was because I had laid on the tank and put my feet back and just gotten lost, but when I had slowed enough I looked down...

...and it's dangling by the tie rod! WTF?

Apparently, the bolt that holds the shift lever to the foot peg mount had worked loose and fallen off while I was on the highway!

Going to order a replacement tomorrow (it's an oddly shaped carriage bolt). When it arrives, it's getting some blue Loc-Tite!

If I didn't stop to put on rain gear, I would have made it all the way home. The ironic thing is, by the time I found the loose cable the rain was finished.

Scary stuff. I notice I have more close calls on my XJ than when I'm on my XR650L. It sits alot higher and VERY noticeably brp red.
