since the trip meter doesnt work properly i wrote the mileage on the speedo glass with a grease pencil...

i got 105 miles before the bike quit running. opened the fuel cap and confirmed there was still gas in the tank. flipped to RES and got the imfamous NoStart...

PRIme and full choke would barely get the engine running. i ended up pushing the pike 4 blocks to fill it up with 3.6gals. there just isnt enough fuel flow with a low fuel level. is there anything i can do to get it flowing better? ive got an inline fuel filter and we went over this once before but i thought it was fixed...

105 miles per tank is NOT acceptable. i might have to put the bike up for sale. ive GOT to get better range...

Check your oil to make sure that the carbs aren't leaking and flooding the crankcase...Others may have better suggestions.

Which bike? Does it appear to be running rich? Is it smoking black?

its not running rich and there doesnt seem to be any gas in the oil...

it was mixed riding mostly in town with a little bit of highway running (70-75)...

I'd pull the petcock and check the RES tube and make sure it's not clogged, Not sure which bike you were talking about, but maybe check the length of that RES tube, it may be too tall ? I'd also verify the float levels for overfull and the petcock for leaking into the vacuum line.

First week I rode my XJ650G I got 33.2mpg, checked petcock and it was leaking right into the vac line because of a small hole in the diaphram. Also checked float levels and found one kinda high, reset it and the following week I got 44.8mpg in the city.

I get 50 plus with my Seca 750 in general driving. The best it has gotten is 53 on the highway at 65 plus MPH.
Good point about the Reserve tube. That could be why the Reserve didn't work whe he ran out in the main tank.

Of course you have a running bike. When I picked up my X that sat for 19 years with gas in it, I had to clean the tank and replace the petcock. To say the least I couldn't believe the amount of crap on the screen of the petcock when I pulled it from the tank. It would've allowed fuel in if full enough, but when down to the lower amounts or so even before reserve it would've stopped flowing. The internals were so bad, I purchased I new petcock from Yam.

i had this issue last time when i thought i had only gotten 70-ish miles on the tank (didnt notice the bad trip meter)...

the petcock flows just fine on prime but yesterday when i flipped it to prime it didnt want to run unless the choke was fully set...

im going to replace my inline fuel filter (ive been told its too big to keep full) and id like to maybe check out a new petcock, for the fuel flow issues...

in case no one picked up on it, the WooHoo was supposed to be dripping in sarcasm...

ive got a 110 mile ride each day and if i want to use this to commute with i will NOT be happy getting gas each way every day...

Definitely something not right in those carbs too I'd suspect - I'm a big fat guy and regularly get over 45mpg on my jetted 650.

Do replace that filter, and check the petcock filter tower too. Get yourself a can of Seafoam while you're at it to clear out the carb crud.
