I can't figure out what the small compartment under the side cover on my 650 Maxim is for. As far as I know the compartment under the seat was meant for a tool kit. Can someone tell me what Yamaha was trying to do with the box under the side cover and is there supposed to be a cover for that as well? The parts catalogue online doesn't show anything as far as a cover so that would make the box useless if you put something in there that could just slide out. And it does appear as though something could fit over it as there seems to be a place for a cover to attach. Someone help. I'm a little confused if you can't tell.

It is prob the compartment for the lock chain.
There should be a metal post that the lock attaches to.

Thanks. That would make sense. Does anybody use that compartment for anything? I'm thinking of trying to make a cover for it to make it more useful.
