I've noticed alot of posts about oil, and found this article through another forum. Thought it was worth reposting here. It's kinda long, but worth the info. It talks alot about wieghts and how different natural and synthetic oils are made and stuff like that.

    Hope it helps.

Interesting, never heard of using a diesel oil before. However, if you go to the rotella website, they say that it doesn't meet JASO standards. (stands for Japanese something). This is because of the ash content, which can causes deposits. I think our bikes do have this JASO standard in the manual, isn't that true?

Although it is more expensive, I think I will stick with my Amsoil. Seems like a small price to pay.

Great article though! Glad that it confirmed that 10W-40 synthetic is a good choice, even though manual calls for 20W-40. The same is not true for 10W-40 dino oil or 20W-50!

I have heard really good things about the 10-40 4x4 synthetic blend by Quakerstate. It is supposed to be better for high compression engines. (like my Maxim 650. It doesn't have the extra long life of Mobil 1, but I always change my oil after 2k anyway. I also just did my shaft oil with synthetic Castrol. Seems a lot smoother.

Interesting read, I guess for right now I will stick Shell's Rotella 15W-40 diesel oil. Can't help it, I'm a truck driver by profession, so I'll stick with what I know to be good oil. And it's price isn't too bad, $11.99/gallon.
