i have a 81 seca 550 that i have been trying to find something to do with since i have no paperwork on it and i decided to make it a drag bike to go out and have some fun, i have done some major engine mods and this little bike can hold its own pretty well, but at the end of the 1/4 mile im only at the tom of third gear, and i was wondering if anybody would know what size sprockets i would have to use to make the gears short enough to at least be in 5th maybe 6th at the 1/4, i am posting this for insight only, if your going to talk CR@P about how slow it is compared to newer bikes i don't care, i do it for the fun!!!!

i will have pics soon as the project is nearing an end, i took it out the other day but the spedo only goes 85 by adding rpm's tp where the spedo stoped i would guess somewhere around 120ish at the top of fifth, i didn't want to shift into sixth cause the bike was "poping" due to the cracked carb boots, i have a buddy who owns brc off road, its a shop in yuba city where he does abunch of engine work to 4x4 vehicles and i don't know how much he ported them out i just know that when i stick my finger in either one intake or exhause it is smooth as silk, and he told me that he took the camshafts and welded some sort of hardended steel on the lobes then ground them down to shape with a micrometer, the thing will lope at idle like a hot rod and take off at 3k like a rocket

I think you're confusing us with "YouTube" and the like, dominated by 14 year olds that know even less than nothing about what they speak.
Most of the members here know that you cant compare our almost 30 year old bikes to modern technology. That being said, I have a fairly modded Gixxer at my disposal, yet 80-90% of the time when I want to ride, I grab the keys for the XJ!
