I have a problem that I have not been able to find an answer for using search........
On occassion when I release the throttle to shift gears, the engine races. The throttle is back to idle as far as I can tell. I have checked it while the bike is not running and the throttle snaps back as it should. I have checked the cable and lubed it just to be sure, but this seems to be happening more often. Has anyone run into this? SECA 750

My 81 Seca 750 was doing exactly this, and it seemed to be related to my sync and mixture issues. Does your bike idle properly on its own? Or does the engine "race" instead of idling? Mine really didn't want to "idle" properly at all, and the self-revving was a result of that; When i'd grab the clutch, it would release pressure on the engine and let it spin as fast as it wanted.

It idles properly...... When I grab the clutch the rpm's stay up and gradually drop, but not nearly as fast as they should. I just got back off a 500 + mile trip and I started noticing it occassionally toward the end of the ride.

Doh! Doh! I feel kinda stupid! Doh! The problem with the slow releasing throttle had to do with "end play" on the throttle grip. There wasn't any there and it was binding on the holder assembly. See how simple that was?? Doh!

    That was fast!
Glad that one worked-out without anything involving removing the carbs and checking float heights, bench syncing and setting Pilot screws.

    Easy as pie!

You didn't need to go 50 miles.
Just a few miles would have checked it.

You rode 50 Miles for the FUN of it ... huh?
    Don't fib!

You just needed and excuse to go riding the bike!

Rainy season is over in Northern California. We may get a shower in July or August but no major rain until November.
