""There’s been talk on the street for some while, bikers chatting in hushed tones about the rumoured return of The Legend. Now it’s official, Yamaha has proudly announced that one of the most talked about bikes of the last quarter of a century is back, except this time it’s bigger and better than ever before.

The all-new V-max was launched outside Madrid on the evening of June 4, where the world’s media were entertained by drag-car races and jetfighter flybys before they got to see the real thing – enormous horsepower (200 PS) of metal muscle, a tower of power that unleashes mind-boggling acceleration, created for riders who know that might is right.
The new V-Max stays true to the original V-Max concept, it’s a drag bike for the street, powered by the philosophy of genuine hot-rod performance and design, built for the adrenaline rush, pure and simple.

So what’s different about the new V-Max? We’ve already told you that it’s got heaps more horsepower than the original. But that’s only half the story. The new V-Max is way beyond anything you’ve seen out on the street.
That 1,679 cc V4 engine is the centrepiece of a radical automotive sculpture that will bring whole neighbourhoods to a halt. And it’s not just got horsepower, it’s got radical high-tech horsepower, aided by cutting-edge Yamaha electronics technology from our race programme: Yamaha Chipped Controlled Intake (Y.C.C.I) and Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (Y.C.C.T).

The rest of the new V-Max is just as pumped-up and tricked-out: cast aluminium frame, underseat fuel tank, six-piston brakes with ABS, magnesium engine cases, electroluminescent dash panel, LED tail light and mega-wide 200/50-R18 rear tyre.""

My local Yamaha dealer is advertising pre-order of the '09 V Max.

According to their ad the MSRP is $17,900. They list the horsepower at 197. They also state that the new V Max will not be a dealer stocked item , but by special order only.

I've always thought the Vmax was an AWESOME bike, but like 85MaximXX said, hopefully the handling is better. I think for the price, i'd be looking at a good used one instead. I see Vmax's on CL all the time for around 5000-8000 grand. But i gotta say, this new model sure looks like a monster! Just wish they'd do something else with the headlight bucket. Pull off that bucket and mount an old fashioned round headlight with chrome ring. :)

    Ewww!
Let's see...looks like a V-Rod on steroids. I'd have to lose the ugly license plate bracket for beginners and change that butt-ugly muffler to some thing less conspicuios. I've seen smaller tractor mufflers!!!

looks pretty good, just have to get rid of those mufflers. thats ok though, vmax's sound best with some good aftermarket pipes anyways.

Aw, fer crying out loud, that thing's got a bigger engine than my CAR. Gas is north of $4/gal and they want to stick a 1.6L engine in a bike??

Someone didn't think their cunning plan all the way through, methinks.

    Yea, they did.

It's going to a hot seller with the guys who can't afford to keep their Muscle CARS gassed-up!

They're ought to be a whole bunch of them getting parted-out by NewBees to motorcycling who wrap them around the nearest tree shortly after finding the throttle grip, too!

They're selling a quarter mile time.
    Not fuel efficiency!

You'll also see a few of them going past you on the highway with the front wheel a few feet off the ground.
Needing rear tires from doing burn-outs.
Piloted by a rich kid who got his just to be one of the first ones to brag about it!

Not for nothing, but you can probably still get decent fuel economy. A buddy of mine has a VTX1800 with a Pro-R Hypercharger, power commander, and aftermarket pipes without baffles and still gets about 40 mpg with 130 hp. Not to shaby.

should still get decent economy. The vrod was designed after the original vmax not the other way around. The new vmax was designed to look similar to the original.

dont worry about the speed limits. why would you want that much power in a bike, unless you plan on pulling a lot of stumps out of the ground.
might be a new way for population control

    Ugly!

Does anyone at Yamaha know anything about style!

This thing doesn’t know if it coming or going!
