I replaced all the gauges with a digital gauge that does it all. Since I totally modified this bike into a chopper, the wiring was altered to move the ignition switch next to the TCI, a fuse box next to the battery, and wiring run through the new handlebars. So far so good. The tach works, speedo works, neutral light works, as do the signal indicators plus high beam. The problem is with the oil warning light. It doesn't come on when the ignition is turned on. The wiring seems good as I applied 12 volts to the green wire on the diode cluster and the red oil light comes on. I haven't checked the safety switches (side stand, etc) yet. I'm wondering if that light won't illuminate if some other switch is out of the loop. If this is not the case, wheat should I check now? I tried grounding the wire coming from the sensor switch, but the light didn't come on. Does the engine have to be running before that will happen? If it does, then where do I go from here? Oh yeah, the bike is a 1985 Maxim-X 750. Thanks for all suggestions.

what bike is it on ? my first thought is you had a analog senor on the bike now you need a digital sensor may be you need the sensor off a seca or maxim the has the circuit monitoring system Second thought may be sensor is no good?

Ooops just read your post again I see it is a Maxim. Does it have the circuit monitoring system. Another thought do you have power going to the sensor???

I don't understand why the oil light won't come on with the ignition on. Applying 12volts to the output og the diode block wire for the circuit allows the light to come on...so the wiring must be good. The diode in question is open one way, and low ohms the other way, like a good diode should be. Does anyone know what the actual measurements should be and what kind of diode is hidden there? I could replace it if I knew what the ratings were. It has to be that diode, what else is there?

Finally figured this one out. The wiring is all good, but the oil sensor was bad. I took it apart (yes, I know they don't come apart and can't be repaired) and found the glass enclosed switch broken. I found a replacement switch (same type) in my spare parts bin, drilled the bad one out of the brass tube and installed the new one. Resoldered the ends, expoxied the outside portion and voila...it works! Not a job for the faint of heart, but I didn't want to wait another week for one to b shipped.
