So I've been lurking here for a while; I've read most of the posts, mostly in the Mods section. Very impressive and inspiring mods by Cheesy, PainterD, crath, Kevin11, allbiz, etc. I've gotten a lot of ideas from this forum and finally signed up.

My XJ history started a few years ago when I bought my first 82 XJ650 Maxim from my Master Sergeant for $1000. I immediately loved it. Soon after, my main car broke down so I was left with nothing but the XJ to ride as primary transportation. I rode that bike year round for almost 3 years through all weather until I finally broke a couple pieces in the shift shaft/cam assembly. Broke open the crank case and never got around to fixing it. A few months later I found another XJ on craigslist exact same year/make/model for $900. Figured at least good for parts. So now I have 2 and plan on fixing both up and chop/bob at least one. Now that I have this forum, I can think of little else but bike mods all day. Glad to be here, great forum.

    Welcome Shybold

There are some great modders on here. I keep adding to my bike to make it a better tourer. I don't trust myself to start cutting though.

Enjoy the site and post pics of any progress you make.

Thanks for the welcome. I don't presently have a welder even if I did trust myself to start cutting. But one bike I'm doing like Buff says, building up a better tour bike. Going for the optional 2up and be able to pack on some gear. Maybe bigger/second tank. And, if I get it all set up to how I want it, I might... even.... make it pretty. Hard to imagine any of my bikes not flatblackrattlecanned. The other I"ll eventually make a solo hard tail. The potential of these bikes continues to astound me. Chop, bob, stretch, tour, even cafe.

Speaking of cafe, Ease and broccoli were in the "etc." of my previous post, sorry the kaffs slipped my mind. Their bikes changed my mind about cafe racers. Also very impressive and inspiring mods.

I actually had to explain to a pal of mine why I couldn't take my eyes off my bike when I was over at his place sharing a few beers. It's like that girl of yours you lost or just got that you can't stop thinking about. Now that I've got mods in my head, all I can see is a haze of schematics and chopped bike parts. Can't wait to get some before pictures up and get started on some projects. Again thanks for the welcome.
