:? I changed the oil for the 1st time on 1982 suzuki gn125. In taking the drain plug out, a spring and metal plug fell into the pan with the oil. I fished it out, not knowing why this would be coming out. What is this for? Can I just put it back and in what order? Will this always fall out. I bought the bike last year and had a shop work on it. I ordered a filter from the shop and they were nice enough to install with oil without charge. Is this why?

If it's like many cartridge filters the spring will go over the bolt first, then a washer (many times it sticks to the old filter), and then the filter itself and then back on the bike.

Go here and look and see if you can find a microfiche for your model (or a similar one). http://ronnies.com/micro.htm

This was not in the filter, it was on the oil plug or bolt. The spring was about 1 1/4 inches long and could go over the piece of metal on one end. The metal was about 3/8 inches long. Rounded on one end and flat on the other end. The flat end was bigger in diameter than the spring.

That was not the drain plug you took out, the drain plug is in the middle of a plate held on by three bolts off to one side of what you removed

reassemble it in the same order and replace it, then use the right sump plug

what you removed was the neutral stopper, flat end goes onto the spring with the rounded end up into the gearbox

http://www.alpha-sports.com/suzuki_parts.htm, find the year of the bike and then look under transmission for a diagram

    Kickaha,
Thanks for the info. I am assuming by removing this, the oil will be drained and I can replace it and reuse the oil
