Are there any larger capacity tanks that will bolt onto an '80 XJ650-G without other major mods (I'd rather not cut the seat until I have a spare)?

    Thanks

XJ750 Maxim 1982-83 is your best bet.

How about an '81 Seca 750?

And, what *ARE* the capacities of the various tanks anyway? I can't find them individually or in a table anywhere.

    650 Maxims use a 3.4 gallon tank.

    650 Seca use a 5.2 gallon tank.

    750 Maxims use a 4.5 gallon tank.

    750 Seca use a 5.0 gallon tank.

All of this according to the Haynes manual......which is kind of suspect in their numbers......it's hard to believe that the 650 Seca tank has a larger capacity than the 750 Maxim tank!

That's why I made a note that the numbers may not be correct---Haynes manuals are sometime less than completely accurate!

The 4.5 gallons supposedly includes the reserve capacity of 1.1 gallons........

    Chacal,

Do you happen to have any 750 maxim tanks? What about a guage cluster that would fit my 82 650 maxim? I don't think I will need the guages but the guy at the shop was saying it might be possible.

I've never tried it, but I doubt it. The XJ700 tanks are sort of in a class of their own, they sit way down and forward on the frame, much more so than all the other XJ-series bikes. And their rear frame mounting pad hole is about half the size as the earlier model bikes.
