    Hey all,

Although I do read all the messages as they come through, it's been a while since I've posted... Here's pics of my recent (yesterday) bike tank / side-panel transformation.. Paint & Graphics by Gary Schulte (of Austin, Tx)

Fresh pics of the installed side-panels & tank here:

    http://www.treasureboards.com/cgi-bin/x ... l/read/184

It would have been installed earlier in the week, but I had to find
my Dremel to open up the petcock hole a bit. I bought and installed
an after-market gravity-feed petcock that has a true "Off" position -
along with the "on" and "reserve" positions.

    This is a 750 tank on a 650... It's a bit wider - you feel it with
your knees when sitting on the bike.. but otherwise.. a good fit!!!

Looks great Rex, I've been wanting to see one with the 750 tank. I'm looking for one myself.
    Great job!!

Well.. No problems as long as I remember to turn the petcock to "off" after each ride. I've had to flush the crankcase several times over the last 2+ years because of leaky petcock/bowl floats.. so eventually I put an in-line shutoff valve between the petcock & the carbs.. so I'm used to flipping the switch to "off" after every ride... Just a matter of remembering...

Nice work. You did that yourself at home? I need some schooling, I've got three tanks waiting for me and I've only done one (which turned out so badly, I won't bother taking pictures). Help!

Oh heck no... Gary Schulte took the tank to his father's home-based paint shop and did it there... then dropped it back off to me here in Dallas....

    Great work, huh?

i think your throtte cable is out of place,

or something is in the front of your tank ;)

is it a lock? its gonna ruin your paint!

Not sure what it is that you're seeing... My throttle cable runs underneath the tank... oh - maybe you're seeing the blue SS brake-line? Not touching (or near) the tank... All cables look to be routed correctly...

Ah -yes the black "door trim" that I bought at Pep-Boys. My buddy's Shadow had that around the seam, and it looked very clean - so I duplicated the look on mine with the trim.

Nice paint job I love it! Mine is all craped out now because of gas drops. I have to get a good clear coat that will not get eaten away from gas drops.

So other than the petcock issue you had, does a 750 tank fit an 82 XJ650J?

    Yes,

I replaced mine this year. I even got one without the fuel level sensor, so I didn't have to worry about wiring something else up to the bike I didn't need.
