Keep in mind I have a 82 xj750 So put the year and engine after your number of turns out form bottom for the idle mixture screws. I am closing in on 3 3/4 turns out from bottom for most of mine and I guess that's just too much? What do you folks find with yours?

Also who knows where I can find a Colourtune at a good price?

I have three carbs around 3 3/4 turns and one at 2 3/4, but I am going to check my valves soon to make sure everything is good there..

How long does it take new plugs to change color after driving the bike? I bought new plugs to get a better reading (have had these out many many times) and drov the bike 10 miles at about 5-6000 rpm. Got it home, let it cool and puled the plugs. I fully ecpected them to be at least a little colored as I had set the screws out another 1/4 turn making it 4 full turns out. They were white as my face in December. How long does it take a plug to change to the light brown?

Tried it again last night. Drove for 20 plus minutes and plugs still white. I think I'm going to address the cracks in the carb joints even though my bike doesn't rev with carb cleaner or propane put to any of them. When I do put carb cleaner to the cracks when the bike is running I see what looks it's breathing on those cracks???? So maybe it leaks anyway. I'll try the Permatex super black stuff I used before to fix the cracks and see what happens.

...thats easy, until they turn tan

The plugs should be showing residue within ~20 miles.
Are you bringing the bike home and letting it IDLE in the driveway for a couple of mins?
Plugs will be burned white if you shut off @ ~5k.

What I have been doing is trying to get the bike as revved up as possible until i turn the ignition off. Now letting it idle for more than 2-4 seconds. Just enough time to get the bike the kill switch off really. I also didn;t mention I still have a very small. 4-5 drops of oil oil leak from the very front left stud area of the head. It used to put out like 2 ounces after a ride but I re torqued the head to 25 lbs I think, which put a pretty good kabash on the leak. Would that kind of leak be letting air in? And are you saying that the high revved driving is possible making my plugs white?

    YES YES YES YES YES

Keep bike @ the specific revs for ~15 seconds. When doing idle I keep it @ 1050 for ~2 mins to make sure the most accurate read can be done.

PERFECTLY TUNED Bike @ Idle =
Insulator is ALL black EXCEPT for the tip which should be brown-ish.
Approx 1/3 of the insulator is showing this color.

    PERFECTLY TUNED Bike @ 4-6K =
TIP of insulator is WHITE!!!! Middle section will show you what is occurring.
Middle as in the 1/3 section of this insulator.
DO NOT WORRY ABOUT THIS STEP UNTIL YOU ACCOMPLISH THE IDLE TUNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    PERFECTLY TUNED @ WOT =
Refer to Rickomatic. Tip will be WHITE, Middle will be WHITE!!! You basiclly look @ the very bottom section(you WILL need a light and a 5-10X scope to see). You analyze the "fuel ring" at the bottom.
