    Hi

I´m about to buy an Xj 700 and would like to know what the letters "S" and "N" that I´ve seen in connection with this model means (I´m aware that "C" means California model).

The frame number is JYA1FG005FA2532 and the German reg. papers says 1.st registration was 01.07.85 - so any extra info on this bike would be most welcome (haven´t got the XjCd yet).

    Regards, Finn

I'm not real sure what the S and N stand for.

But from your serial# you have a 85 XJ700N made for the US market.

    Thanks for your answer

Could it be that "S" is made for European/asian market?

    The S is a 86 model, they made 2.
serial#1NH made for the US market

serial#1NJ made for the CAN. market

I assume the S and N signifiy the model year.
    Mines a 82 xj650j the j signifies 82 model year.

I know that the "N" and "S" stand for the model years on the maxim X's. The "N" being the 1985 xj700/750 XN and the "S" being the 1986 xj700/750 XS. As for the non maxim X's or the regular maxim's, I'm not sure but I would asume it stands for the same thing. Hope this hepls.

    Thanks

I think that´s right - got some parts catalogs from yamaha 85-86, which corresponds with the letters "N" and "S" respectively.

    XJ 700 Model differences

    Hi All
I am in the UK and I bought a 1985 XJ 700 Maxim last week.
It is running a bit lumpy and I will be looking to have it 'seen to'.
The only thing is that I am not sure of the model. I have seen references to XJ700N, XJ700XNC, XJ700S in publications. Can anybody advise me of the differencess in the models please? I need to know that I am buying the correct parts.
    Many thanks
    Duncan

Your Model is XJ 700 N.

I've got the XJ-CD incl. the service-manual, owner-manual, partnumbers and more.
I made from the XJ-CD (3 CD's) one DVD, because I must not search where the special manual is.
