1,Are there any dual disc XJ wheels that would fit and Max 400?
2, Would it be worth the work?

    It's a 19" wheel , tire is a 100/90

I'm planning a SS braided line upgrade later, wondering if this path is worth looking into.

im not positive about the fitment... should fit, but my seca 750 has dual brakes and is a 19" with 100/90 tires.

My front forks/wheel are from a 650 seca turbo and the calipers/rotors are off a 02 R6. They work great! Needed to fab up some mounting brackets for the calipers but the rotors screwed right into the rim with no issues.

if 02 R6 rotors screwed right on would the wheel on an R6 also fit a seca/maxim... just curious... although im not sure about the rear wheel.

Are the rotors the same as stock or are they diffrent size and dish? New rotors could help out my front brakes.

I don't think the fronts wheels are the same, different sizes but not 100% sure. I still have the stock rotors so I will check. The front end is not the stock front end from my 550 though, it's from a 650 seca turbo(don't know what year).

Your Maxim 400 isn't heavy enough to really NEED dual discs; I had considered doing the same thing to my Seca 550 until I found out about EBC's line of aftermarket high-performance aftermarket FLOATING rotors. For about $200 you can replace the rotor and pads and modernize your front brake (and lighten the front wheel assembly at the same time.) http://www.ebcbrakes.com/mb-streetbikes.html Take a look at the "Pro-Lite series (about halfway down the page.) I'm gonna go this route on my 550.

Oooh nice, definate a better alternative I think, after thought were preplac ing the front forks with the 750 forks (or fabbing a bracket to hold the 2nd caliper) I'll check into this idea....

Checked through the link, did some reading, they are carried by 2 local shops... sweet. Now to figure out sizing and fit. Are most Yammy rotors of this era close to the same? Also, how do you think these compare quality/price wise to the performance rotors carried on MikesXS?
May take a close look at my pads today and see what the wear is.

Mya check their drum brake shoes as well... (though mine seem to work quite well atm) future reference. Braking seems to be the biggest weak spot on the bike.

You can figure out which part number your bike takes on the EBC site, but it's kinda goofy. There's a link to click on http://www.ebcbrakes.com/Assets/08%20US ... ations.xls
that will download their applications list in Excel format, then you search on your bike for the PN. Took me a while to find it.

Be careful on using EBC applications charts........on many of the models, they seem to have confused Eur model XJxxx models with their US counterparts. On some models (such as the XJ750's which used the same discs for both US and Euro models) it's not an issue, on the XJ550 and XJ650 models it may lead to a certain amount of "confusion".

It certainly did for me when I was investigating their product line. It took 3 months of research and effort to get things right. Somehow, I doubt that other retailers take that amount of time (or have the time to dedicate to one segment of their entire product line) to figure it all out......

However, as pointed out, they are worthwhile, high-quality products and are basically the ONLY replacement OEM-fit rotors available:

    Disc Brake Rotors:

br1) OEM and aftermarket front and rear disc brake DISC BRAKE ROTORS, brand new units exactly replace damaged or worn out originals.

Original OEM units exactly replace your originals.

High-performance aftermarket EBC Rotors not only fit correctly, but also feature a cross-drilled disc with over-lapping holes to prevent disc "ridging" as the pads and disc wears. This spiral "birds-wing" drilling pattern promotes maximum rotor cooling efficiency (not to mention cool looks!) as well as being significantly lighter than the stock rotors.....and on models that use an offset center hub, these floating-design (riveted hubs) provide significant weight savings over the stock rotors, helping to improve both the handling and braking characteristics of your bike. Their precison-ground HSPR low-carbon steel is basically fracture-proof.

Rotors should ALWAYS be replaced in pairs, or adverse and dangerous braking response could result.

And ALWAYS replace disc brake pads when installing new rotors!

The minimum thickness for original rotors is as follows (they specifications do NOT apply to aftermarket rotors). The maximum allowable "runout" or warpage is .15mm high-to-low for all models, all rotors:

4.5mm for all XJ550 models, all XJ650RJ Seca and XJ650 Turbo models, all XJ700 models, and all XJ750 models.

6.5mm for all XJ650 Maxim and Midnight Maxim models, and all XJ1100 front and rear rotors.

7.0mm for all XJ950RK front rotors.

8.0mm for all XJ900RK rear rotors.

    Aftermarket High-Performance Rotors:

    Disc Brake Rotor Hardware:

bh3) OEM and aftermarket disc brake rotor ROTOR MOUNTING BOLTS AND LOCKING TAB WASHERS, high-strength, heat treated bolts and double-ear fold-over tab lock washers. We highly recommend replacing the bolts each time a rotor is changed. Lock washers can be re-used, but the un-bending and re-bending of the lock ears can both fatigue and break them off.

Use 6 bolts per rotor, and 3 lock washers per rotor.

HCP2860 OEM front or rear disc brake ROTOR MOUNTING BOLT, used on all XJ550, XJ650, XJ750, and XJ1100 models. Each:

OK, found it easlily using that chart.... MD2014RS
After a little cross referencing, same as the 88-90 Virago 250's &
82 XJ 750 (right side) and 81-82 Virago 920 (right side)

What exactly are the differences in the various rotors between the models, diameter, thickness, bolt pattern?
