Starts, but only if I smack the backside

    man, I know how ridiculous that sounds..yet there you have it.

    My 1982 SECA 750 will start only if I reach back on the RIGHT side of the bike, with the starter button engaged , and smack the of the seat, kinda where the seat meets the body, almost at the far end of it.

    What's back there, some kinda relay or something?
    IT didn't do this until a few weeks ago..

    I spose it's actually a pretty good built in theft deterrent...maybe I should leave it?
    I feel a little like Fonzie at the jukebox...only different

    heh.. that's your starter solenoid acting up.

    My 750 had the same thing happen, so I opened the solenoid just wide enough to shoot it full of CRC cleaner.. Washed it out real good and it's been fine since. I suppose replacing the solenoid would be better, but I'm cheap :mrgreen:

    FYI, the solenoid is the metallic cylinder stuffed into a rubber keeper right behind the battery. Just follow the fat positive lead off the batt. and you'll find it.

    lads, you're right.
    I gave her a gentle , yet aggravated thwack with the screwdriver & presto!
    When I get time, I'll do the CRC....riiiiight
