I've Googled for colortunes, and all I can find are automobile colortunes and motorcycle colortunes that say "unavailable".

    1) is the auto colortune sufficient?

    OR

    2) any suggestions who might have the motorcycle colortune available for purchase?

I bought a kit from ebay, but as it turned out, it was the old design of plug which seems to have some issues of shorting out between the input post and the collar of the plug, thus causing a lot of misfires when trying to tune. I have since ordered a new plug directly from Morgan Carbtune in the UK: http://www.carbtune.com/colortune.html Unfortunately, I just received it and due to some mix-up in packaging got the 12mm plug instead of the 14mm I'd ordered. Sean Morgan was very apologetic, is sending me the right one and letting me keep the wrong one (good customer service despite the mix-up). I had no problems with ordering overseas other than a charge of about $1.75US from my CC company for a foreign tranaction or currency conversion fee or whatever.

If you want to see the difference between the old plug design and the new, there's a pic I took here: http://flickr.com/photos/oblivion/162771142/

Old is on the left, new is on the right. Note that on the new design, there's more separation between the terminal post and the collar keeping the spark going where it should. Also note I have sockets over the bottom of the plugs to show the size difference, so that's why they look a little odd.

As for if the auto plugs you foudn are OK, I really don't know. Important things would be the thread size - XJs using 'B' size plugs according to the NGK lettering system have a 14mm thread size - and the plug depth. I don't know if they come in different depths, but I know regular plugs do, so they might.

    Hope that helps (HTH).

Thank you very much for that info. I'll try carbtune.com and see if they have what I need.

    My xj550r uses D8EA plugs, though - 12mm. I guess that's one difference between the 550s and the 750s.

I got mine sent over from England to Ausralia. Ordered it online and ended up with a 14mm one. Sent them an email and arranged to have a 12mm adapter sent over. Worked out great cos now I can use the plug in the 550 (12mm) or in the 1100(14mm).

Only took three days to get here.

Secaman, remember it's not the kit w/ the HT lead or viewing scope, it's just the plug. I don't often part with stuff, but if you make me an offer I can't refuse, well then, I guess I can't refuse ;)

    PM me.

Yes, same question here. I saw that one, but it's the automobile version.

    Does it work for you?

Worked just fine for me. No issues. It comes with the 14mm plug so you only need to confirm that you have that size sparkplug.

I have been looking all over for the 12mm. I needed the whole kit. The only place I found to buy it was from colortune directly. I believe it is going to take two weeks to get here! (USA) There were other places that advertised them, like some Lotus (car) website, but they were going to have to wait a month.

If you follow the link above, you can buy the adapter for about $15.00.

    Reg Colortune is 14mm
    A plugs are 10mm
    B plugs are 12mm
    C plugs are 18mm
D plugs are 14mm Long Reach

I had someone tell me that the adapter doesn't work too well because it changes your compression ratio. This makes sense to me.

I would be inclined to agree only in part. The amount of pressure reduction is minimal. Yes it is a slight loss but not enough to effect the accuracy of the test. Have at.
