So - working on my beast - just did the whole 'electrolysis' gig on my gas tank - came out pretty good... Just gotta swish some CLR and dry it out...

Need opinions... Was thinking about getting some POR-15 and coating the inside, I have heard good and bad about coating. Is it worth it to coat the inside of the tank?? Or will just due diligence keep it fine?

    Looking for pro's/con's... anyone?

I have the same question in my mind. I have read a lot of good things about using 2 part epoxy. Radiator shop is a great idea. I'm going to check into it locally.

Yammyboy - did you clean out the rust first or just take it as is?

I've coated 2 tanks with POR-15 so far. One of them - over a year ago. I've not had a problem with the coating coming off or dissolving in gas. It makes a very thin and flexible liner, and it's pretty tough. As far as I know, the only way to get POR-15 off metal is either with their own solvent or a grinder... If you get it on your skin, you'll wear it for a couple of days.. :)

The application process is pretty involved, and takes a fair amount of effort to do it right. Might as well devote a full afternoon to it. It's well worth the money, IMHO... But, if your tank doesn't have any heavy rust on the inside and you keep it topped off when the bike is parked for any length of time, you may not need to coat at all. About the only thing I'd do is turn any remaining "red" rust spots into black rust with a mild phosphoric acid, and follow up with a water/baking soda rinse... Then thoroughly dry the tank.

I've heard some bad things about Kreem - apparently it doesn't last nearly as long as they advertise and has a tendency to flake off after a while. Never done it myself though so I dunno if that's just bad application or what...

I've heard bad things about kreem too.. Originally I was planning on using POR-15, now i don't know if its worth it..

I did the interior electrolysis on my tank, which wasn't too bad honestly - and then I soaked the inside with CLR, rinsed it, and then swished some rubbing alcohol around inside of it to get out all the water - and let it dry... the inside looks really good..

I am going to paint it and all that, so I want to get this all done now... If I get this bike running, that gas tank will be full all the time its sitting, which isn't going to be often ;-)

So - its down to POR-15 and Bill Hirsch...

I have read a lot of good reviews on the Bill Hirsch Product LINK

.. Its cheap - and trusted by auto aficionado's - who usually have a lot more invested in their vehicles...

This is the one I am pobably going to order - looking to get something today/tomorrow so I can get this wrapped up by next weekend (my internal timeline for getting my carbs back together and on the bike, and tryin to get her to fire up)

    Any ever use this??
