I picked up an inline fuel filter today at Advance Auto. Nice looking glass with removable elements. I did a search on here and from what i read you need one with 90 degree turns. The one i got is straight and about 3.25 inches long. Do i need to take it back? Or does someone know how i should place this under my tank? Not too much room under there before the hose dips down.

    thanks guys

I had a straight one like you have, It needed more hose on it so it wouldn't kink and didn't quite lay on top of the carbs right. I picked up one with the 90 on one end an it sets right it between carb 1 & 2 on the XJ650G with the 90 pointing down..

I have a straight one with no issues. Sits right on top of the carb between the clip and the nipple on the petcock.

I think i'm going to take it back and get the little red el-cheapo i saw for now, until i get enough junk together to place another chacal order. Do you guys know what size hose that is on my bike?

It is pretty tight... you need a small filter. Here's my solution.

    1/4 inch fuel hose.

As for "needing" a filter with the 90-degree barbs... I don't know that you actually NEED one, but on the Maxim/Hitachi setup, it works great.

The clear glass filters that come apart look nice but are only screens, and you already have probably an even finer screen in the tank.

To really catch the rust and dust we should be running paper filters.
I like the crystal clear housings, rather than the fogged white plastic.

Think i'll just take this one back, now that i got a lot more info on what to look for. Seems like a mickey mouse issue, but when you actually go to buy one, you find them too big, too long, not fine enough, blah blah blah. Thanks for all the insight guys.

I have a very small one, it's straight for my XS400, but you can get the same thing in a 90-degree angle. More info here: http://www.xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=8983.html
