Instead of starting a bunch of posts, I thought i would as it all here. You guys are very helpful here. This is on a xj750 '82

After the bike has been sitting and cooled down, on start up, cylinder 1 doesn't want to fire at idle, after a warm up, she stars firing. It maybe takes about 30 seconds or so. Is this just due to the way the bike sits causing that float bowl to be slightly lower on fuel?

First, I just purchased new NGK BP7ES plugs, what do they need to be gaped to?

The carbs have not been serviced. The only thing I have done is replaced one of the float needles and verified that all the carbs are getting fuel. The bike runs pretty good.

This may be a dumb question, but does the xj750 have running lights? As in, do the ambers come on solid? The only reason I ask is because I noticed that the turbine signals only have 2 wires which would indicate to me they are only flashers.

The bike is missing its air box/breather tubes, are their any pod filters out there that do not require rejetting the carbs? If not, I suppose I will need to look for an air box and do the tedious removal of engine to put it in.

And lastly, cylinder number 3 header has a decent sized spot of rust on it. Its surface only, but I do not want it to go any further. Is it possible to use some of the black high temp black ceramic header paint?

front signals have runners rear do not, There are pods available they all need or should have the carbs tweaked to run better. Yes you can paint them the spray on stuff IMO doesn't last long better to take them in to get them ceramic coated professionally. I don't know about the gap tho.

I thought I learned here that the only XJ's with front running lights were the 1100's and 700's had running lights up front and none had rear runners. 82 750 should have 1156 bulbs all the way around except for the brake having an 1157.

Regarding the cylinder not coming to the party at start up, I had the same thing but on #4. The passage between the main carb bowl and portion that provides fuel to the enrichment circuit was plugged on mine but you could have an issue anywhere in that circuit. Bust down the carbs and give them a thourough cleaning.
