frame swap

    I have a 1981 xj650 and want to switch everything over to a 1983 xj 750 frame,are the frames the same,what will need to be changed to the 750 style?

    Welcome Mr Fixit !
    I assume you have a bad title or a bent frame?
    The motor drops in, and the tank bolts up. It's all the little things that don't match up is your problem. You didn't say if it's a Maxim or Seca.

    Both are maxims one a 81 650 the other a 83 750 and yes you are correct bad title. So far it looks like the side covers mount differently,the brake light switch is different, and the seat is longer with a different latch mechanism.

    So your choices are:
    A - Fix up the 750 with the 650 motor, improvising and fabricating parts from the 650 along the way,
    B - Buy junkyard and E-Bay parts to fix up the 750,
    C - Pay a title service for the 650 ' s title - or have a tow company impound it,
    D - Buy a titled 650 to be your bike, and part out the leftovers,
    E - Start over and buy a running bike.

    Decisions. . . decisions. . .

    Well everything is swapped over, the only thing different in the 650 to the 750 is the rear brake return spring and switch,the hanger under the tank that a relay mounts to and the rear fender mounting holes everything else seems to have swapped over,almost done as soon as I get the carbs together.
