OK, So I finally go legit and got my license. So I need insurance for the bike. call around and go through TD Since the GF works for them , what the hey. So I'm legit, got the bike, got my license... and the company doesn't know how to type in the Freak'n bank info correctly.. HELLO, Same company same Bank!!!, Dive into the account and copy and paste! DUH!. so after a couple months of that it's sorted and they happily tak'n money from account.

Now I get a letter today saying info missing.. WHAT THE F^%K!!! Call them up and there like, well you have 90 days to complete a training course or we're cancleing your policy!!! Of course no one informed us of this prior to signing up for the policy, and I specifically asked because "Ridersplus" and a few other require you complete the course. They told us nope, it's an option to reduce your rate if you take it. SO now I got Bimbette on the phone saying well if you had spoke with me I would have told you, you had to. She was gladly informed to hoop the insurance and hung up. We had spoken with 20 plus people in the mean time and some of them supervisors, and not one mentioned that I had 90 days to complete the course!

Soooooooooo Who do you recommend in Ontario for insurance, nothing fancy no collision, no theft, plain jane liabablity, clean record, and 35+ years old.

I don't have the info on me right now but I believe they are called Kingston Insurance, I beleive they are in Hamilton and they specialize in Harley's and Classics 25+ year old bikes.

I'm 33 still only have my M2 and right now paying just over 900 bucks for the year.

TD Insurance told me the same thing when I was looking for motorcycle insurance. I have found the best place for me, with prices that could not be beat by anyone, was State Farm Insurance. AND, they do NOT require you take the course, as it makes absolutely no difference to them if you do or not. And, most places, I have found out, are the same. I think you may have picked one of the few that do!

I'm not in Ontario, but had a similar experience with State Farm. I called them up, gave them my VIN, the size of my bike, and answered a couple of questions about who was going to ride it (me), and they gave me a quote. I was so shocked at the low price ($14/month, or $168/year, US) that I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop, but I just received my stuff in the mail this weekend, and it's all legit.

No course required (I'm taking it anyway, as that's the easiest way to get your "M" endorsement here in Colorado, and I suspect I'll benefit from the experience) and they didn't seem to care whether I took it or not.

I plan on taking the course too, but that will wait until next year when (hopefully) finances are in a better position.

I have been with State Farm since I started riding. Good record, no collision or theft on my bike, just basic liability... and I am at $54/month. Granted, I have been with them 20+ years, and they also insure my truck/house, etc.

After putting insurance back on the bike after a 12 year hiatus, I wasn't asked anything about a riders course or anything.

Check them out, but I would also call an insurance broker as well. Sometimes those guys can wangle great deals.

I think you are thinking of Kingsway Insurance (which is what I have). I took the safety course so not sure if they mandate it.

As another option - why don't you take the course? It is well worth the money in my opinion.

I use progressive. I think it was $160 / year, which works out to $13.50 / month for liability only. I told them I did not take a class, and it was a difference of $6. With that said, I am taking a class as soon as I can get into one.

Can't compare US and Canadian insurance rates folks - they're not even in the same galaxy. There's even huge differences between provinces.

For myself, I use an insurance broker -- they got me in with Pilot Insurance. Have our home and auto policy with them as well. Bike insurance is ~$35/month.

Course here is $900 and change. for the saving in insurnace, not worth it plus, I have been riding 20+ years... just became legit cause I told the GF I would if she got her cager license. Wish we had US insurance rates here, Hell of a lot chaper. but as Altus put it, completey 2 different galaxies. Was goign to go through my broker off the bat, but she gave me a brush off and told me to call her the following week, that didn't sit well with me, so I shopped around and ended with TD which I'm really regretting, (Morons). Have a friend here who has statefram for all his other stuff, business/house.. yadda yadda, but for bike insurnace they wanted to charge him an arm and leg, so he went with "Ridersplus". I checked them out, but they want you to take the Freak'n course, so that a no go. If I take the course I save a whopping $100 - $150 a year.. Ooo Ahhh and in 2 years my rates will have dropped $400. So lets see, pay the 9bills plus for training that I already know and save $400 So I'm paying 5bills and change for known procedures and handling or wait out the 2 years while my rates drop 4bills and I don't pay any extra? Hmm... Needless to say I'll be calling around to state/pilot and kingsway, see what they offer and maybe bite the bullet and call the broker =\

Yeah - for the most part, the rule of thumb is to take what a US rider pays for insurance and multiply it by 20. More if you're young or don't have much experience.

You sure about that number? I was an instructor on the course at Fanshawe College back in 2005, and it was still under $400
Edit - just looked it up - now says the course is $425

I checked it out prior to calling for insurance, (just after getting m1), and the fanshawe course was 4 and change for the first part and 8 and change for the second part, plus government's hand of course.. unless I read it wrong.
