I have already taken the rear drum apart and I have plenty of shoe left, but every once in a while, I get my little brake squeal. I have tighten everything up so I shouldn't have any play down there.

Should I just chalk this up to brake dust or possibly metallic brake shoes??

A light squeal now and again is not a major concern. Dust can cause this. But you may want to pull the cover reasonably often to inspect for accumulation.

Is the drum surface polished really shiny where the shoes make contact? If so, it can cause a squeal occasionally from vibration. Use a good-quality HIGH TEMP "brake caliper" type grease and be sure the shoe pivots are CAREFULLY (NOT excessively) lubricated, and take some emory cloth and "scuff up" the shiny drum. (If the shoes are polished shiny smooth, carefully remove the shininess--don't overdo it and make divots) Unless the drum is horribly scored, that should be all the "refinishing" required.

I occasionally have a squeak after a humid rain.
After scuffing the brake drum and removal of brake dust(be carefull aspestos) the brake rarely squeaks

All you have to do to get rid of Brake Squeal is "Round-off" the sharp right angles on the Brake Pad Material.

The process is called: Chamfering (Look it up!)

Chamfer the sharp right angles off the edges of the pad and there won't be two competing flat surfaces coming together and emitting a high frequency squeal due to the edges chattering.

    There won't be edges!
    You'll have Chamfered them off!

    Braking is NOT affected.

Hey guys. I just bought my '81 650 maxim. I have put 1200 miles on it in the three weeks I have had it. I have been looking for a padded sissy bar for her. Any tips on where to find one? Are there any on the market now that would fit the bolt pattern?
