Swickwake, the VIN is stamped through the sticker into the head tube. It will not be removed if you peel off the old sticker. You could try gently heating the sticker up with a heat source (I'd steer clear of a lighter) until the adhesive softens up and use a plastic putty knife to ease the sticker off. Save it on a piece of wax paper or other non-stick surface if you want to reapply it later.

ok it would probley help if i give you guys info on the frame.

    1982 seca 750.

i looked on the neck at the vin sticker and there are no stamped numbers under neath which is on the left hand side. but there are some vin numbers stamped on the right side of the neck. these are the same numbers that are stamped on the motor right above the clutch housing

my '82 750 also has no numbers stamped under the sticker, made it very tricky to get it VIN verified! my numbers stamped on the right dont match anything...?

what i would recommend is stamping the vin into the neck where the sticker was, powdercoating it and you should be ok.

and that is the same thing with me. i am also doing a frame swap so non of the numbers will match up and I still need to get this thing licensed and registered.

just to verify the stamping of the vin who should I go to first DMV or Highway Patrol

Swick, hit the DMV. Most offices can inspect and verify. If they can't, they will get you set up with the paper work to go see your nice CHP representitive. Best of luck!
