So im looking at selling my 1981 xj550h seca to get another bike. I bought it for 2200. Which was a rip.

So far Ive put new clutch, brakes, seat, blinkers, chain, front sprocket, rear sprocket, and a few other small thing that I am forgetting right now.

The clutch is a barnett racing clutch that cost me $200. I replaced it myself because I wasnt about to pay a local shop 400 for labor.

I just passed 19k miles, i think im on 19022.

It looks good minus a few normal use scratches and small dents. It is missing the left tank badge.

so let me know i was think of seeing if it would sell for 3000 dollars, but something tells me not

this picture was taken before i replaced the seat

please let me know what you think

    Thanks
    Josh

It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. The way bike prices have been this spring/summer, $3000.00 may not be that unreasonable.

umm...not. Sorry. Mine has 18K miles on it, paid $800 and put another $800 into it, it looks a tad better than yours. I've got a bid in on this '83 on eBay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... OTORS:1123 and I'm not gonna go over $2000 for it. Did you say you fixed the seat (looks bad in pic) and where are the mufflers? Seca 550 Mufflers are the hardest part to find. You can get XJ650 badges that will fit, I would say if you put the mufflers back on, replace the missing badge and with a good seat, you could maybe be able to get $2600-$2800 but I think $3000 might be a stretch. Gotta be damn near perfect to pull those $$$, too many halfway decent ones going for $800-$1000.

Judging by where mine is currently sitting I would say you would be hard pressed to get $1500 out of it.

But then I am not an expert....

i just picked up a running (not well needs tuned) 82 750 seca for 500 bucks(guy needed money that day) around this area if its an xj and it runs its worth 1000 if it runs great and shines its worth between 1400 and 1800 on craigslist

KBB lists my bike at 1180, nada at over 1500. Its all dependant on what someone's willing to pay. Locally, (Lafayette, indiana) i've been seeing bikes similar to mine going for 2500+ on craigslist and in the paper. People are going berserk over bikes here because of gas prices.

I paid $1700.00 for a 85 VF700C Magna with 22K on her last fall. Bike was in good, but not great shape. I just saw one go for $3550.00 on ebay a few weeks ago. Bike prices have just gone crazy this year. If you want to sell it, list it for what you want and go from there. If someone buys it, GREAT! If not, no harm done.

I gave $750.00 for my '85 Maxim X, in great shape. This was about 3 years ago.

No missing pieces, good tires, recently tuned, 22k miles on the odometer.

It now has a tad over 36k miles on it and the only things I've had to do were replace tires, and cleaned and rebuilt the carbs recently.

It doesn't like getting wet, but I hear that most of the Maxims out ther don't either.

log into ebay and check the completed listings. I'm sure you'll find the prices of similar bikes all over the map. But as members have posted here, you never know until you list it. Just depends on the buyer, the day of the week, and the relative humidity (how else can you explain prices from $500 to $3,300 lol)

I think bandits are bada$$ btw....

If your X doesn't like getting caught in the rain then you should look into a Dyna Coil conversion. You'll be drinking Pina Coladas in no time!

well after a couple hours of thought and looking your posts over, I think im gonna post it on ebay in a couple weeks for $5000 just to see what it pulls.

In the mean time ill address the areas that need attention on the bike.

I live in west texas, which the cheapest i have found a good used bike for is $3000-$4000.

So once everything is in order, I hope to sell it for enough money to buy a 2001 suzuki bandit 1200s.

Thanks everybody for the information and help
    Josh

I think $5000.00 may be pushing it just a tad.

Its done its job for the past two years. Ill probably sell it for $2K once I get fix a few things on it.

Around here you see them listed for $800-1400 but you never know what they settled for. You always ask a little more and let them beat you down a couple hundred. Mine is in need of paint with 11k miles. I am going to paint it, finish cleaning out the carbs or buy some other ones, put a new tire on it and hope it is worth $1200. Not sure I want to sell it, but that is what I feel a realistic value around here is. Actually leaning towards making it a rigid bobber. Time will tell.
