carbs too lean?

    any advise here pls? carbs have been bench sync'nd,gauge sync'ed,twice and still it runs rough and the plugs have a bright yellow color on the tips! the oddest part though is the valves which did tap slightly (mech said not enough to do valve job) stopped.my car just died and i need to use the bike for work (40 mil round trip).what do i check/do next?thx c-n-d

    Did the bike set for an extended period before you got it? 23K on a 23 year old bike is not many miles per year. I suspect the bike has sat at some time in the past. Maybe time for a complete carb tear down, THOROUGH CLEANING, and a rebuild.

    yes,the po had it for a least 2 yrs and said he only rode a couple of times.you might be write but since i can't afford a rebuild kit at the moment i guess that makes me sol :cry:

    Well you could get by with a quick pull the float bowls and clean them and the pilot jets. Check the floats quick and pop them back on. It may not be perfect but will more than likely be better. A can of carb cleaner and alittle time spent should make it untill you got the cash to really go through them with new seals and gaskets. Boil the float bowls in lemmon juice if you can razor blade the gaskets off and I will bet that alot of crud will come out. At least that part will be done when you get around to it. Good Luck

    BTW when were the plugs last changed?
    at what RPM are you doing these plug chops?
