I'm about to slash my wrists over getting my float level right. A tiny adjustment at the tang resulting in the end of the float being 1mm higher or lower is making my clear tube bowl level test vary 10mm or more.

23mm at the float is too low.The clear tube test shows the bowl level 4mm lower than the spec of 3mm.

22mm at the float is too high. The tube test shows that the fuel level is ABOVE the bowl gasket by 4mm.

Should the difference be that big? I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

#2 carb doesn't seem to respond much to float adjustment. So far, it's always above bowl level or flooding out the front of the carb. I'm thinking sunken float.

I used to test copper floats by dipping them in boiling water. If bubbles came out, you had a leak. Will that test work on these floats? If not, how do I check them for leaks?

First of all I like to run my bike and get the float level while its running. Don't know if thats what the book says but it works for me. I run them about even with the head of the bowl screws.

The one that you think is sinking. Did you put a new needle and seat in. If not you need to clean the seat with a golf tee (unpainted) cut the head off and chuck the tee into your drill and buzz the seat for a few seconds. That should clean the seat so your needle will seal again.

Give it a shot it might help.

How do you get the carbs level while they are on the bike? The manual says the same thing you do. It also says the carbs should be level. On the center stand, I can level them side to side but even with the front wheel lifted and the rear tire making contact with the ground, they arent level front to back. Up to now, I'm doing this on the bench level right to left and front to back with a fuel source from above.

Also, I replaced the float needles and seats in the rebuild.

you get the carbs level across the rack, but they should be inclined, like on the bike.

I do up on center stand on level garage floor. Front wheel up and back wheel touching ground. Check your float levels there and see where they are at.

Oh sure! Now you tell me. I've been killing myself over this for two days!! LOL! That likely means that 23mm is fine. Sigh.. off I go again.

Level right to left. Measure fuel height at centerline of bowl (right where the needle jet is).
