I joined to get some help on this topic. I drained the oil, put in the 2 quarts, rode around, then the oil spewed out of the airbox. Do I need to get the top end rebuilt or what??? The oil level view windo is so dark, I can't tell how much is left. What do I do?

a little more history on the bike would be helpful like have you been riding this bike or is this the first time you started and rode the oil is coming from the engine breather hose the first thing that comes to mind is there is compression getting in the crank case the second is it overfilled hows it running??

I just bought the bike for 150 bucks with 17K miles. I put a new battery in it and cleaned the carbs and after a few more minor adjustments from tips from this site, it started at idled right at 1100-1200 rpms. I rode it for a few days then changed the oil. It was on my first ride after the oil change that I realized the oil flooding out of the airbox. Which brings to mind, end does the indentation on the oil filter go?

2 quarts is way too little oil in these bikes. Should be more like 3 1/2 quarts. There may be some very slim chance you didn't get all the oil out and it's now overfilled.
I'm not sure where you should go from here. I'd hate to give the wrong advice as there are others here with much more experiance than myself but it don't sound good

    Is this your set up?
get someone to lean the bike over while you look at the oil viewing window, it might be dark because it's way too high.

i put the side of the oil filter with the indentation towards the front wheel so i guess that was correct. I leaned the bike over and nothing changed! I think the engine has a bunch of gunk in it. I am at a total loss! Any more help would be appreciated!
