I came across a reference to a "guppy helmet" in a video about a motorcycle crash, and was wondering what was meant. Can anybody help me out?

    Thanks.

I think Guppy helmets are bicycle helmets. I know Guppy makes other bicycle gear, paniers and the like. I could'nt imagine someone wearing one on a motorcycle though but I've seen more stupid things in my travels.

I guess you could agrue, some lid is better than no lid at all. :?

Thanks, man. I've seen a number of "Scooterists" with bike helmets on, so I guess that fits, sorta. Colorado is the land of no helmets, but I'll have my lid on no matter what. Don't want to burden my wife and kids with vegetable maintenance.

Everytime I mistakenly venture into Ohio I am aghast at the sheer number of FOOLS who own motorcycles there, the only folks I see wearing helmet are the 10/10ths sportbikers, BMW riders with orange vests and the police. <sorry my PC filter is broken>

Just cross the Ohio border and all the idiots from Michigan are there without their lids.

I know a couple that used to do that. He laid down his Ultra Classic on I75 in Clio with all his gear on. He got some bruises. When he replaced his gear he bought his wife a set and told her she's never riding with him again unless she has it on. I don't know if they got the bike back yet but I'll bet he thinks long and hard before going sans helmet.

I live in South Dakota, you know, the Sturgis State? I saw a statistic at riders class my son took that 85% on motorcyclists in this state do not wear helmets. EEEGAD!!!!

I head out next week to work in the emergancy room at the hospital just outside of Sturgis. I work out there 2 weeks of the yaer at Sturgis time. You would not believe the things I see and excuses I hear.

On a side note but related. I was just up visiting my dad today and in their town yesterday a 7 year old (yes 7) was driving an ATV with a 2 year old boy and a 4 year old girl on it as well. They pulled out in front of a 15 year old boy driving a truck and killed the 7 year old and seriously injured the other 2 kids. None of the girls had helmet, not even a guppy.

    Child killed in ATV accident

HAYTI, S.D. (AP) – One of three children injured when a pickup truck hit their all-terrain vehicle near Hayti has died.

Two sisters ages 7 and 4 and their 2-year-old brother were on the four-wheel ATV when the accident happened late Tuesday forenoon. The 7-year-old who was driving later died. The other two children are hospitalized.

Hamlin County Sheriff Dan Mack said the ATV came out of a rural driveway onto the road. The 15-year-old who was driving the pickup was not hurt.

    Sad.
