82 xj750 maxim I got caught in the rain the other day and as soon as the bike got wet it became real loud and slugish. loss of power too. It just did not sound like normal. as soon as I got out of the rain it would go in and out of runny good vs poor for a mile or so. Then it just went back to normal when it dried out. It does it evey time I get into rain now.
The other thing is my idle was doing great around 1000. I was able to move it with the idle adj. Now it only idles at 1500 or a little more and the idle adj has now effect on it. i cant get it to go down. It get stuck high. I cleaned the carbs and adj fuel mixture and it was running great till I hit rain. Now it idles high and I am confused.

Weather will affect performance. Shouldn't be that much though.

Are you using air filter "pods" or the stock setup? Given the choked off nature of stock intakes and extremely "humid" air, I suppose there could be condensation forming in the airbox. I little water in the fuel will make performance suck. If you have pods, water can enter them directly and affect performance.

Check the throttle cable to make sure it isn't too tight or hung up. There is usually a small nut adjustment where the cable comes out of the bottom of the throttle. Also, watch the carb linkage where the throttle cable attaches to it. Make sure that the cable goes slightly slack there when you let go of the throttle. Lastly, make sure the throttle hand grip hasn't worked its way up against the switch housing too tightly. If it has, the throttle will stick just a little bit. And yes, all these things have happened to me!

I have looked at cables and they look all right. I have a foam filter with a spring in it that clamps onto the cover box. The bike runs fine in with all the moisture, its just when the rain hits the bike, I think it is getting in the fuel some how. I was going to try gasket sealing the carbs, to see if it leaking in their.

I'm just making wild guesses at this point. How is the seal around your gas cap? Could water be making it in through there?

For the rain issue, maybe look at the electrics - fuse box, wires and harness are the places I would start. Unlikely fuel is contaminated if the problem goes away when it warms up.
