Ok so I am going to change my oil this weekend and went out and bought Castrol 20-50. I read the label on the back and it said it and detergrents in it to prevent sludge build up. Now I have read here that you guys use detegent free oil and I was just wondering why. Do the detergents in the oil do bad bad things to our motors?

All good oils have detergents, it's the "friction modifiers", the "energy conserving, and the "starburst" label that we avoid. You're OK with the 20-50.
The friction modifiers make the transmission clutch slip, mosttimes,
The expensive synthetics make the starter clutch act up sometimes.

The "diesel specific" (Rotella - T ) oils have some anti-wear additives that the EPA has cut out, or reduced from, regular car oils. These diesel oils work great in our bikes.

The best advice is to do frequent oil changes. . . 1,000 to 2,000 miles.

    Agree with that.
I put 300-500 miles a week on my bike depending on my work schedule and I change my oil every first of the month.

I change the Oil every 2,000 Miles.
I change the Filter every other Oil change.

I use the Castrol 20/50 and the Bike seems to like it!
