I obviously over tightened the fork pinch clamp on my (upper steering head / triple tree clamp / crown, handle) whatever it's called. Can it be fixed ? Do I need to replace? Does anyone have one? 1982 XJ650J Maxim

Due to the critical importance of the triple tree to the safety of the rider, I would hop on ebay and find a replacement. I would not even attempt to repair it.

I have one for a '82 Seca 750 - -black, couple scratches, mounts the bars on rubber isolated risers. Might bring your bars up 1/2 inch. Check with someone that the dimensions will work. PM me.

I have one for an 85 Maxim-X 750. Don't know if it would work but if it does (the drawing looks the same), you can have it.

The head cross member is cast aluminum, I wouldn't weld it. Get yourself another from what ever source works for you.

    Eric,
I think I have one that would let go for much less than 109 bucks. I'll make sure I have, I'm sure I do, let me know what you can afford and we'll figure it out.

the point being USE A TORQUE WRENCH. If you don't have one go buy a decent one, you WILL need it to work on these bikes. It will save you a lot of headaches (might have saved this one...)
