Lots of differences, to make it short.
    Seca is a standard bike.
    Maxim is a cruiser.

No, a standard is, normally flat seat, you sit upright, feet not tuked up under you.

Grim- take all of this with a grain of salt, but as I own the same bike (more or less) and am becoming more and more familiar, maybe this will add to the discussion. The 750 Seca is often refered to as a "Sports/Touring" model, while the Maxim is supposed to have more relaxed seating position and cruser-like styling.

So looking at the two pictures top and bottom, it looks like the Seca has a lower tank, higher seat position, and coil over shock suspension, and the max has a higher teardrop tank, "two-up seat" that sits lower for the primary, and shocks with enclosed springs (apart from other styling differences). I thought I'd read that the Max engine was slightly detuned from the Seca, and that the front forks are simpler, but I haven't really studied everything yet.

Ok now I understand I think. Thanks guys. I am new to all of this as my weekend ride is a HOG. However I used to own a Yamaha 750 triple and man I loved that bike.

I don't think there was any "tuning" difference in the motors between Seca and Maxim, at least not in the 550's maybe the 750's? The 750 Seca had anti-dive forks some years, the Maxims never did to the best of my knowledge. MOST people don't know what a "standard" motorcycle is anymore, mainly because the MANUFACTURERS seem to have forgotten. TRY to find a MOTOR. CYCLE. anymore, all you can find are zooty rockets and Harley wannabe's. Even what the "big 4" CALL a 'standard' has tupperware all over it and a restrictive riding position. That's why I love my Norton and my Secas...

some things should not be messed with. Just because they change things like riding position inline 4 and such as that does not mean it is always for the good.
