My bike...at least the parts that came on it, were repainted by one of the POs. Not much effort was put into it. Now that I've added a right side cover and fairing, I'd like to repaint it, but I'm thinking about changing color.

My wife hates all 3 of these, she says stick with white or go to red.
4/5 bikes my family has had have been red, so I'm not going there.
White is still an option, but what do y'all think of these?

(whoever owns the bike pictured, sorry for my vandalism!)

Colors pictured aren't exactly what I'm thinking, but close enough to get an idea

I like the plum crazy color but would never paint a bike a dark color I want every advantage for someone to see me or give me that extra second to get out of the way if they see me late. THe yellow look decent in the photo chop you have.

Paul; I was thinking about the same thing. The only full graphics package I am aware of for the 550 is the '81's red stripes. There are two companies I found offering packages, Reproduction Decals in Oz, and some place here (I gotta find them again.) The place here said that if you help them develop a package they will hook you up. The stripes for the '83's (black bike, maroon and orange stripes) are way cool. I may send those guys a sidecover and tailsection or whatever they need, my black bike is probably going to need a repaint. For your '81, why not the original scheme and use the new GM pearl off-white I see on Pontiac G6's.

OK, my point being THESE stripes would open up a whole other set of color choices [IMG] and I'm gonna try to see if I can contribute to said availability...I think these would work with a wide range of reds, oranges, burgundy, charcoal grey, etc.

Of the choice you gave, I like the yellow. It's bright enough to get attention yet not aged like so many of older colors. My second choice would be white as there a lot you do with it and stripes.

I think too that yellow is a great colour, also not common for such a bike!

In facts, you gave me a good idea for mine...but i think we won't see "twin bikes" as i'm still 3460 miles far from you :)

White hides damage but shows dirt.
Black shows repair but not dirt.
Cleaning the bike is my worst chore.

I was actually thinking about going with a silver.
The package I was using to change the color didn't have one that didn't look like primer to me

as far east as you can get in michigan 43.027407,
i would NOT put red stripes on blue. too hard on the eyes...

that said, i ment white with my 550, so i could explore accents AND increase visibility...

As a future bike commuter (read- lots of miles, lots of traffic) I went shopping for a bike that was bright colored. Lucky for me I found a great bike in bright red (see gallery) and I have to think that it'll show up better on flat light days than black or another dark color. And I'm probably going to add more lighting to it. Given your choices I'd go yellow first, white second, and Crayola Blue third.

If you're into authenticity at all (um...the purple is actually pretty) you can get original decals online for white, grey and red versions! My personal opinion would be white or grey with the new NOS stripes (go to reproduction decals.com or ) and the fancy dancy $47.00 each tank badges!) or powers edge at: http://www.powersedge.com/pages/parts/v ... amaha.aspx
    ;-)

I vote for the yellow. It looks good and has the brightness too. As a side note mine was orginally black but i repainted it a few years back to a purple color simular to your plum. That too looked good. Have been thinking of going with yellow for the new paint for just that extra visability.
