I'm looking for a good front fender to replace my original one that has pretty serious surface rust. Or if anyone has good information on getting my original re-chromed, that would be appreciated as well.

    Thanx!

Use the electolytic rust stripping technique they use on the inside of tanks.
A large bucket of water, some washing soda (NOT bicarb ! NOT caustic soda)
a battery charger and a large clean steel bolt that will act as a sacrificial anode. (The sacrificial bolt will be partially eaten so dont use one you need!)

The info is all out there on the net.

Derust it, dry it immediately and spray with WD 40 to prevent "flash rust"
from forming after the electro de rusting.

Depending how long you will store it before the next step, you might want to smear it with a fairly thick oil or some grease and then bag it in plastic.

When you are ready, you can either prep it for paint or sent it out to a chrome shop.

There is now a silver exhaust enamel that looks pretty convincing as chrome.
Personally, I hate chrome because its such a cow to keep it from going bad.
My front fender is going to go out and get powder coated instead.

    Thanks, TexxGadget.

I'll look into that process. I have a white bike and a friend said, "Just paint it white", but there is already so much white there, ya know? Besides, I'm trying to make it back to 'normal', but not really striving for a show resto. I'll also send the exhaust to Jet Hot for coating.
