I recently have come to the point where I need to replace my fuse box. I live right behind a carquest and the only fuse box they had was $30!! So, I just bought an individual one and spliced it into the ignition terminal. My lights, blinkers, and everything else work except it wont start. I push in on the start button and the oil light comes on...that is it! Here is what I did, why is this not working??

I can't tell a thing that's going on in that picture so I honestly can't even see well enough to tell if its wired in properly. :-/ Any chance of a bigger pic?

Radio Shack sells a 2-pack of "chassis-type" fuse holders, pn 270-739 for $1.99 that has contacts nearly identical to the Yamaha originals (not quite as tall.) You can pop the contacts out of their "base" and solder them in to replace broken terminals in your original fuse box, they snap right in. No substitute for a good retrofit, but it does work...better than "splicing and scabbing..

when the old fuse was in there if you touched it with a screwdriver, you could hear a 'click' in the starter (?)......

It could also be your MAIN fuse (the one at the top in your pics) causing the problem. That's what was causing mine. The clips were losing contact just enough to cause a voltage drop when the starter tried to engage.

I yanked out the fuse box and bought 4 of the ATM fuse holders like the one you have in there and replaced all the fuses.

They are in there with butt connectors right now. Later I plan to replace all of the fuses with marine grade DC breakers installed in the side cover.

Koop, you should cover the solder joints up to prevent a short from setting the bike ablaze.
You might also want to look at your starter solenoid, it might be stuck. When you push the starter button, do the panel lights dim or do they stay realtivily the same brightness?

Turns out the main wire to the solenoid(from the battery, the red one, was completely broken!) replaced that and it runs like a champ! Robert, I did cover the joints! Thanks for the help fellas! Another project complete thanks to XJ forum!
