When I was poking around my bike tonight I noticed little stepping on the rear shocks with a little nub or nut sticking out. if I wanted to raise my seat would I adjust that? and do i need any special tools?

    thanks.

that adjustment is used to preload the rear shocks which would make them stiffer... good thing if you're riding 2-up or have a bunch of luggage in the back. it can be adjusted with a preload adjustment wrench (aka spanner wrench).

So effectively this would not be how I would raise the seat. I'm guessing the only easy way would be getting longer shocks for the rear? I suppose highway pegs would help make things less cramped and are probably less expensive.

If you feel a bit cramped when you ride, you'd be better off with the highway pegs as longer/shorter shocks won't change the seat's position relative to the pegs, they'll just raise/lower the rear of the bike relative to the ground. You could also look into some forward controls if you want to stretch your legs a bit.

And now that I think about it, the driver footpegs on my '83 750 have about 2-3" of adjustment, front to back. If yours are the same, it might be worth seeing if you can adjust those to make the cockpit a little roomier.

I have the original highway/engine guard pegs for my 82 750. You can have them if you pay shipping. Shoot me a pm if you are interested.

You could also get the seat re-contoured ("filled in") to raise the height a bit (or consider a Seca?)
