    Ok guys, as some of you know i was working on a 750 before, but i got rid of it. I have the brand new spark plugs and oil that i was going to use but didnt get a chance. The oil is 20w40 and i have the oil filter from it also. Will these work for my xj1100? Will spark plugs from the 750 work with the 1100? if so what gap?

    IIRC the plugs on an 1100 are NGK BP6ES, the 750 takes BP7ES.

    ok, i just got the fuel lines and some tee fittings, i pulled the tank off and look at the routing diagram under the seat, it shows the "octopus" over the left bank of carbs but im not seeing anything that looks like it. There are two outputs on each petcock and 2 hoses running into the carbs.... does this mean i need more parts? What is the purpose of the octopus things anyway?

    The ocotopus is the vacuum actuator pod, it serves the same function (and contains many of the same parts) that the vacuum diaphram assembly that is built into the back of all other petcocks serves.....that being, to "turn off" the petcock when the engine isn't running (no vacuum) and to automatically "turn on" the petcocks when a vacuum signal is present. It attaches to the #1 carb via a C-shaped bracket which is held down by the carb hat screws.

    You need that unit for a properly functioning system, although, of course, the system WILL work without it....you merely lose the "automatic on/off" function. As long as your float needle valves in the bowls are okay (not leaking) there's no problem.

    fp311) OEM fuel distribution and vacuum control VALVE ASSEMBLY,, complete unit as used on XJ1100 models only. Attaches to the C-shaped bracket that is located on top of the #1 carb hat.

    HCP5375 OEM fuel distribution complete VALVE ASSEMBLY, with the small mounting bracket, for all XJ1100 models. Does NOT include the c-shaped carb hat bracket. Each:
    $ 72.00

    HCP5376 OEM fuel distribution valve assembly MOUNTING BOLT, use 1 per assembly, for all XJ1100 models. Each:
    $ 4.00

    HCP2185 OEM fuel distribution valve assembly mounting bolt LOCK WASHER, use 1 per assembly, for all XJ1100 models. Each:
    $ 1.00

    thanks len... i also just found this and i think that it solves my problem for the most part

    Q: There are 4 hoses going to the carbs on my 79SF but only 2 going to my friends' 80SG. What's the deal?

    A: The '78-'79 carb banks have hoses conntected to two "T fittings" (between carbs 1-2 & between 3-4) that allow air to vent into the float bowls. In '80-81 these vents were relocated and don't have hoses or T fittings, they vent through small openings in the carb intake bell.

    ok, so after a bunch of swearing i got the fuel lines connected.... found out the hard way that both sides of each petcock need to be connected... after staring at it long enough i used the two tee fittings and made the front petcock oulets go to the left side carbs and the rear to the right side carbs.

    turned on the petcocks and no fuel leaks... good

    turned the ignition... still have power..... good

    (since i have no start button) made contact on the solenoid, starter kicked a little and then dead. Still light coming out of the head light so i tried it again... kicked a little less and nothing. Then it just wouldnt do anything... please tell me its just a dead battery.... if the starter is dead i think im just going to push this thing off the side of a mountain (seriously). I am so sick of being so damn close and getting screwed one way or another. So please for the love of christ somebody give me some advice before i go f%$king nuts and shoot up the place or something.
