Like is says in the subject line, I have a chatter in the front end of my Seca. It is irregular, not a tinney sound, but pretty consistent (always there). I wasn't sure if this was abnormal or fairly typical. But after riding the BRC bikes around (albeit slowly) all weekend, and having had an opportunity to take a long ride today on mine (I rode into work) I'm convinced it's somewhat unusual.

I'll be going over the bike carefully at lunch, but here are options I'm cosidering: Loose bodywork, or component thereof- I have a full faring on the front, with a cracked headlight lens. The lens could be rattling around, or I could have a loose piece in the interior of the faring, or a loose fender/part (doesn't appear loose, but I haven't really cranked it around). Bike steers well, tracks fine, no vagueness; Could the speedometer cable be getting ready to fail? I think I've read about these being unreliable after 26 years- would it rattle? Can I lube it?

Fork seals were replaced by PO, as were the headset bearings (with rollers). Anything to check there? No evidence of leaks.

Any advice? Please? Thanks in advanc.

Does the chatter go away when you apply the brakes?

I could be the light. Tape it until you know for sure.

It could also be a Rust Ring around the Brake Rotor rubbing up against the Pads.
Look at the Rotor on both sides.
If there is a "Ridge" ... you can sand it out with 320 followed by 400.

If it's a pronounced ridge ... scrape it off with a sharp chisel and then sand it down.

I'm not sure, though I'll certainly check. I hadn't even considered the brakes, as I'm pretty sure it's not that rhythmic- more of a dit, dit, ditditdit, dit, dit, dit.

I'm going to tape up the headlight lens as well, and see if that doesn't eliminate it. Thanks both for your suggestions.

    Anyone else?

I did take a closer look at the bike, and have to conclude that it's the lens over the headlight that is causing the noise. Braking doesn't seem to affect the noise, and everything else seems fairly tight.

I'm due to pick up the new windscreen soon (hopefully this coming weekend) and will see if the shop that is supplying the new screen has the ability to fab a new faring lens for the headlight.
