    OK, sorry for my "dumbness" please forgive my learning as I go, but looking at the petcock there are three different settings

    Res=reserve (right?)
    Pri= ???
    on= on

    when trying the tank on the bench, heres what I get
    Res (no gas flowing)
    Pri (gas)
    on (no gas flowing)

    What the hay? When I was trying to start it, she seemed only to run on Pri.
    Currently, working on carbs (cleaning and sync)

    You need Vacuum to the Petcock's Vacuum Operated Valve to have the Fuel flow in the "ON" position.

    If the Vacuum Membrane in the Petcock is compromised ... the Valve won't open and Fuel won't flow.

    pri- flows when gravity is on your side
    on- requires engine vaccum to flow
    res- requires engine vaccum to flow, but until the tank is bone dry

    prime(pri) the carb float bowls first before starting, then flip to on after you prime for ~20 secs

    Hook a line up to the vaccum value and suck on it and you will get gasoline in your eye if your face is in front of it. I wonder how I know.

    so, techinally? could you run the bike on the PRI setting? Would this be like placing one of those "standard" petcocks on the bike? like you would find on a honda?

    has anyone just replaced the diaphram with much success?

    How are you today I have changed that diaphragm and it was very very simple to do and it worked great I was nervous about cracking into it so I tried three different replacement units just to go back and fix original . It is only four Phillips screws. mine works great now.

    A light coat of gas resistant rtv will work for those petcocks leaking around the edge but if the diaphram is compromised you will definitely have to get a new one. This is not the what I would recommend but this is what I did.
