So I picked up that XS650 a few weeks ago and got it running fairly well but the tank's not too pretty, needs paint. I was browsing kijiji yesterday and saw a guy's selling his XS850 along with a parts bike. Hmmmm, I think. Maybe I can pick up the tank from the parts bike if it's in nice shape, so I emails him. Well, after a few emails he says I can have 'em both for $250, the parts bike and another that ran when he parked it last fall after buying his HD.

I *REALLY* don't need another bike and certainly not two more... But I mean, c'mon! How can I not?!!?

    It's pronounced "Deeewwww eeeeeeeetttt!"

I'm heading out to see them in about an hour after having negotiated a few more sqft of garage space for a "a few bike parts". Hehehehe... That one never gets old!

Huh!! Turns out I do have some willpower. Not much, but some...

Seems the bike's motor is locked. Not seized, locked. One day he was starting it and heard a clang or clack and then the motor wouldn't turn. Not with the starter or the kick. Some of the covers and controls had been removed. Rear master cylinder was pi$$ing brake fluid. A few other things. All together there was a little more than I want to tackle right now... And that XS850 is some kinda weirdly put together bike! Three cylinder with the timing chain running on the left end of the cams. I always said not to trust anything with an odd number of cylinders. Unless maybe if it's one.

Anyway, there was enough to make me rethink the idea of adding another steed to the stable. On a positive note, I already have some grudging permission to get another bike so I can keep my ear to the ground and see if something else materializes.

850 was a great bike - my all time favorite I owned. Although my XJ650 is rapidly growing on me...
